Recipes on the way
As promised I am posting the recipes from the boat show. Please forgive the timing, February was a bit busier for me than I expected. Please look for a new page with the recipes from this years show as well as those from previous years. Thanks for your patience. Chef Mark
Out with the Old, in with the New
Out with the old and in with the new…year that is. Happy belated holidays and a fortunate new year to all of you. I hope all who are reading this note had a great holiday season and were able to spend lots of time with family and friends, and even more time awaiting the reopening of the Venetian Hot Plate!!! Alas my friends your wait is over, we are open and ready for the start of a great decade.
As is tradition, Linda, the staff and myself hosted a fantastic New Years dinner that featured our favorite Texas raised beef as well as some local flounder so fresh it was still twitching a bit as it came to the chopping block. We spared no expense with imported Maine lobster salad and a local Blue Crab risotto. ( are you salivating yet?) However that is all behind us now and we have many great meals and bottles of wine to look forward to in the New Year. Starting of course with our end of the month wine and food pairing dinner on January 27. I have chosen the herb thyme for as my focus ingredient, as it was a favorite of the late Chef Maurizio as well as my own. Its sweet herbal flavor allows it to be a star in savory and sweet dishes alike. Please see the attached menu for specifics and call for reservations if you are interested in joining us for this celebration of Thyme.
Also in January I will be hosting cooking seminars at the Corpus Christi Boat Show on the 22-24. I am planning to focus the seminars on wine pairing and wine tasting on Friday, seafood on Saturday and Desserts on Sunday so please buy a ticket and come cook with me at the Boat Show. We will also be participating in the Port A Dine Around on Monday the 25th and we will be hosting a table at the KEDT Food and Wine Classic on the 28th. Please come out and support your favorite local restaurant as well as some great local charities.
Thank you for your continued enthusiasm for our little restaurant, we hope to see all of you real soon.
Sincerely
Chef Mark, Linda and the crew
Welcome to the Venetian Hot Plate

At the VHP
Linda and Maurice Halioua opened The Venetian Hot Plate in Port Aransas, Texas in 1995 after moving to the United States from the area of Venice, Italy.
The Venetian Hot Plate offers quality cuisine and a quaint, yet energetic atmosphere, bringing a touch of Italy to this casual island in South Texas.
